Wobo's Story

Wobo Bekwelem (aka Dr. Bex) was born and raised in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. As the big brother to sister, Chi-Chi and little brother, Chioma, Wobo was always the one to lead by example.

Wobo has enjoyed theater, music and food since he could walk and talk. He was always excited to take part in plays, loved to cook and even had a wedding cake baking business on the side. However, since every good first son of Nigerian parents is "urged" to choose between Engineering, Law and Medicine, Wobo dutifully went off to medical school at the University of Ibadan after high school. He continued to explore his love for theater while in Med school. He grew to love medicine and couldn't see himself doing anything else. Wobo's parents, Dame Margaret and Venerable B.F., were proud to attend his medical school graduation where he was honored with the Provost's award. After medical school, Wobo volunteered in various Nigerian villages, providing free medical care, before venturing off to the states.

It didn't take long for Wobo to adjust to the below freezing temperatures-- at least enough to call Minnesota home. After obtaining his masters in public health, he completed his residency and fellowships in cardiology, interventional cardiology, and advanced endovascular therapies at the University of Minnesota.

People have been asking him for many MANY years when he was going to get married, and his response was alway that "he was waiting for THE ONE!"

After 10 years in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Wobo found himself amongst the mountains and Mormons in beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah where he is an interventional cardiologist with the Heart and Lung Institute of Utah and Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. He also serves as the official cardiologist for the Real Salt Lake soccer team and Sports Med Utah.

Megan's Story

Megan MArjorie Hicks was born in small town Minnesota on a dairy goat farm, where she grew up with her big brother, Caleb, twin sister, Rachel (yes, they are identical), and younger sister, Whitney.

Megan’s family lived in St. Cloud and Sartell, Minnesota before grounding the family in the Twin Cities to experience diversity and culture. Megan was known as "Little Big Heart" to her family and friends, always the one to care for others. Her first job was working as a caregiver to special needs children. She enjoyed volunteering at the Children's Hospital, which she did for over 10 years.

Megan's parents, Carol and Tom were proud to raise an open-minded and caring daughter who was full of life. Megan went to business school at the Carlson School of Management in Minnesota, and received a Masters of Health Administration from Ohio University. Between studying and exams, she traveled the world, having hit every continent apart from Antarctica.

Megan's passion for healthcare landed her back at the Children's Hospital, where she "leaned" the hospital supply chain. Transitioning to public health, Megan used her savvy skills to improve quality of care in hospitals around the state-- in cardiovascular disease! She also became an ambassador for the American Heart Association to fight heart disease in Women.

After 33 years in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Megan found herself amongst the mountains in beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah, where she accepted a director of materials management position with Jordan Valley Medical Center. They say this place has the best snow on earth. She can’t wait to hit the trails and conquer the mountains and ski slopes.

Our Relationship

ONLINE YOU SAY? PERHAPS, BUT MORE THAN ANYTHING, WE WERE BROUGHT TOGETHER BY OUR LOVE FOR HELPING OTHERS. WE BONDED OVER OUR SHARED PASSION FOR PUBLIC HEALTH AND MATTERS OF THE HEART.

We are every hopeless romantic's dream. The summer of 2015 brought date after date of local theater, salsa dancing, live jazz, and romantic walks at Minnehaha falls. We had a magical time together! After Wobo moved to utah in july 2017, we both knew it was time. Megan moved soon after, and we were engaged in December 2017, ...and now we're getting married! Throughout our journey, God's love and grace has guided us and made our love stronger, and brought us to this place where we stand at the beginning of forever.
